There are two types of flyer designs. Corporate flyer design and our favourite arts or club night flyers. Both are difficult to get right, but when the right decisions are made both the client and the designer feel a great sense of achievement. The reason for this sense of achievement is due to the nature of flyering. The flyer design is normally geared for mass consumption, therefore you should taylor your design to attract attention first, then to hold the viewer not to discard it, to continue reading and finally, to draw the viewer to a call for action!..

The flyer may have to attract a discerning and up for it crowd who know what they want and where to get it. Your flyer design has to persuade them otherwise. It tells the crowd that they have to get it from you. Right here, right NOW.

All this in your average A6 flyer. So how is it done?

Firstly the designer should ask for as much information as possible, who will be the audience, what are their tastes. What kind of images are suitable for the audience, will they prefer clarity in type or subtle references using image. Establish whether an illustration is suitable or would the audience be more attracted to a large image.

Once this is establised what are the key phrases which should be more dominant than others. Is this flyer going to used in series or as a stand alone fighting for a place in someone's mantle piece...
