Designer
It started with a badly drawn stick-man in 1984. Accompanied by match stick cats and dogs, Jason completed a Foundation in Art and Design at Stourbridge College of Art and Technology in 1991.
Now armed with a suitcase and a tool box full of brushes and paint he continued his journey to London to realise his dream of becoming a painter, studying a Fine Art Degree at Kingston University where he graduated with honours in 1994.
Having acquired his degree in painting through hard work and many nights clubbing, Jason collaborated with a DJ and University friend to produce the visual identity for a monthly club event called Sapour, using his painting skills to produce Ultra-violet Backdrops and projecting abstract 8-mm film loops.
With the success of Sapour and financial help from Kiss FM radio station, Jason and the Sapour team produced the visual identity for a weekly club event called Boo! Here, Jason progressed to painting bigger backdrops, designed flyers, produced and projected slides, motion graphics, video and 16-mm film loops.
Finding himself fully bitten and infected by the design bug, Jason then crammed a two year graphic design course in one year...mainly so he could learn how to switch on a mac, and to open up and produce work that he dreamt of doing at Stourbridge, finding inspiration whilst reading William Gibson's futuristic cyberspace fuelled novel, Neuromancer. After a nice bit of compensation, for an argument with his leg and a car in 1994, Jason was able to afford his second computer, a mac. He had come a long way from his beloved matchstick friends and his Commodore 64!
After completing a business start-up scheme in 1997, Jason and three other artists, from the days of Sapour and Boo!, set-up Core Vision, a company specialising in graphic design for club and media events, with clients such as Basement Jaxx, Travis, XFM radio, Kiss FM, The Dreem Team UK tour, Twice As Nice, Asian Dub Foundation and many other DJ's and club promoters.
Not long after starting Core Vision, Jason decided to pursue his other passion of making music, born from the long nights of clubbing and listening to his childhood heroes, Kraftwerk. After three years working for Core Vision, Jason exchanged his paint brush and image library to producing and programming sound with long term collaborator and friend. In 2001 they set up their own record label, Mischief Brew Music, where he is the joint creative director and in-house designer.
Realising that he had a flair for graphic design, colour, form and being able to visualise the Fibonacci numbers, Jason began to freelance for his friend Michael, and is now a recent, and much loved, addition to the design team.
His other interests are reading his fairly large collection of Science Fiction and graphic novels, watching films, seeing his mates and girlfriend...perhaps in no particular order!!!
