The off spin of spin?
The graphic design in Beirut, Lebanon has seen an explosion of ideas as political parties try to capture the attention of their voter base. Never before has Lebanon been packed full of such high quality Lebanese graphic design.
While many of the graphic campaign posters retain the simple profile shots of the candidates, political parties have realized the need for change in the design of their posters. Political parties in Lebanon have come to realize the potential of innovative and creative graphic design in capturing their voter base. Graphic design in Beirut, and Lebanon as a whole, is illustrating its full potential in this political campaign.
The most famous campaign poster thus far has been "Sois belle et Vote" ("be beautiful and vote") by the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM). This has created a graphic design competition on the theme "Sois belle et Vote" from rival political parties, commercial companies and politically active citizens. The most immediate response was by politically active citizens that designed politically controversial variations on the "be beautiful and vote" slogan. Many replaced it with political figures or altered the text to support their political views.
Clever use of graphics has been central to the campaigns of various political parties. Many parties have played with the new technologies of graphic design to create images that make them more authoritative, older/younger, to imitate historical figures and to create an emotive atmosphere.
