In our design studio, we have to proof out work all the time to check colours, image quality, errors in design etc. For this reason we need a printer that will output as close to a lithoprinter as possible.
For this reason we have chosen the The Epson stylus 2100 for our studio. Apparently this is the first seven colour printer on the market ie. (cyan, light cyan, magenta, light magenta, yellow, black and light black), which is the reason for its ability to give an accurate output. Notice the two types of black in the colour range. This enhances the colour range which means that your printout should not only be "brilliant" in colour but should reflect the quality of any professional lithoprint.
When printing brochures in the studio, I am always amazed with the amout of ink used on an image (expensive to run!) whilst then looking at the text next to it and seeing the pin point accuracy . No smudges, no double vision .. Just simply what its meant to look like.
Much like what I look for in a scanner I would look for in printer... As I have mentioned in the scanner review we have to be fexible in what we can produce becauses every client is different. We need it to be able to output at A3 and A3 borderless which is commonly needed when printing A3 posters or large sized brochures.
This printer is high quality but also high speed .. I sometimes sit in ore watching it rip through the page .. when I most need it!
So it prints brilliantly.. its fast . what else .. Well its been in our office for at least 3 years and its not been serviced once. It still works perfectly, maybe a clean or two is required but apart from that it has to be the most reliable piece of equipment I've used.
Lastly are there any bad points?.. As with any hi-end piece of kit it needs more than just Adobe Acrobat to function properly.. it needs rip software to print to its full capability! This software is available on the internet but is not cheap, and once you use it on a few machines the print queue can be confusing, frustrating and sometimes unstable.. Get past that and youll be fine!
